Restoration: keeping what has lasted

Restoration is not renewal. It means consolidating what is there, repairing damage and keeping an object’s history legible — without overwriting it. That has been the principle since 1990: as much of the original as possible, as little intervention as necessary.

What we restore

Paintings

Cleaning, varnish removal, retouching, the closing of tears and losses — for paintings of various periods.

Picture frames

Broken ornament, missing decorative elements, worn gilding: we make good the losses in the technique of the original and refinish where the findings call for it. Historical material is left untouched wherever possible.

Furniture and objets d’art

Furniture with carving, gilding, marquetry and French polish. Along with candelabra, sculpture and objects that stand between craft and art.

Ecclesiastical objects

Polychromy, gilding and restoration on figures, candelabra and church furnishings — following the historical findings and carried out reversibly.

First the findings, then the hand

Every restoration begins with examination. What is original, what was added later, what is damage? Before any work starts you receive an assessment of what is involved and a binding quotation. Where damage is involved we produce condition reports for insurers.
